My Reiki Story

Harry

I personally find Reiki fantastic for helping me deal with stress, worry, helping me sleep and helping me to put things into perspective. I have also used it extensively on my horses, most recently on my ex-race horse "Viktor" who had to undergo back surgery for a condition called "kissing spines" where the vertebrae impinge on each other causing tremendous pain when a horse is ridden. He had to have 4 spinal processes removed under general anaesthetic and then came home to 2 months of enforced "stable-rest" whilst he recovered. I gave him daily Reiki treatments and he healed amazingly quickly and was calm, content and happy throughout his 2 months of stable-rest. He is now happily out in his field for the rest of his recuperation period.

How it all started...

I have always been naturally intuitive and sensitive when it comes to horses and their well-being, but I initially came to Reiki because of a little horse called Harry, and to be honest, because I was desperate!

I fell in love with Harry the moment I met him. (I am a firm believer in love at first sight!) After I rode him for the first time, I got off and he reached out and touched me cheek with his nose as if to kiss me and I am afraid that was it! I fell for him, hook, line and sinker!

Harry was not without his troubles and I knew this when I took him on. His first main problem was a strong dislike of the farrier, which made the 6-weekly shoeing appointments a very traumatic experience for all concerned.

He also started displaying resistance when asked to go forwards to trot on one rein whilst working in the school. Now whereas some riders would have just given him a smack and told him to get on with it, I felt sure there had to be a reason for it.

We took things slowly and some days he would trot and some days he would not. On the days that he couldn't/wouldn't trot, it was almost as if he was saying to me "don't push me 'Mum', because I can't do it and if you make me, I am going to explode...." So I backed off and we called the Vet.

Sure enough, after numerous tests, it was found that Harry was developing arthitis (spavin) in his right hock. We treated him for this and things started to improve, but then the same thing happened the following year. Another trip to the Vet confirmed he also had developed spavin in his left hind leg.

Having arthritis in both hind legs meant that his gait was altered and this meant that he was also suffering from muscle spasms and pain in his back. All work stopped while he was treated because by now, Harry was in so much discomfort that he had become stressed and unhappy, which of course, in turn, made me very stressed and unhappy. It became a vicious circle.

At this point I turned to Reiki - first of all for Harry, because although he was being treated by the Vet and receiving injections, painkillers and sedatives, he was still unhappy and I wanted to do something to help him on a more spiritual and emotional level. I also booked a Reiki treatment for myself as I was so worried and stressed about Harry that my health had started to suffer.

After a number of Reiki treatments, Harry started to calm down and improve, and so did I! I believe the Reiki also helped me to put things into perspective and gave me the strength to make some very important decisions in my life.

It also led me to want to train in Reiki myself so that I could continue to help horses and also myself, my friends and family by giving Reiki treatments.

Having seen for myself the benefits that Reiki can bring, I then went on to train to become a Reiki Practitioner, Master and Teacher, so that I can train others in the wonderful benefits of Reiki.
